Japan GP 2025 – Verstappen strikes back in Suzuka
Quick Recap:
Max Verstappen answers the critics in style, taking a dominant win at Honda’s home track in Suzuka. Behind him, both McLarens land on the podium, Leclerc finishes P4, and the Mercedes boys secure P5 & P6. A fairly calm race – but not without its highlights.
🚥 Qualifying Highlights:
- Pole Position: Max Verstappen
- Top 4: Verstappen, Norris, Piastri, Leclerc
- Surprise: Isack Hadjar once again impresses with P7
- Disappointment: Sainz handed a 5-place grid penalty
🔥 Key Moments:
The start set the tone – clean and steady, just like most of the race. Despite a slippery track surface, most drivers got off the line well. Only further back were there a few shuffles. Bortoleto, starting on hards, had no grip and dropped from P17 to P20.
Up front, Verstappen held the lead – chased by the two Papayas.
As expected in Suzuka, we got some proper overtakes – including a nice move from Sainz on Hülkenberg in the hairpin.
The biggest scare came from Norris, who pushed hard after his pit stop and went wheel-to-wheel with Verstappen. A wild slide onto the dry grass followed – but he caught the car just in time.
Later on, a bit of McLaren team radio tension: Should Piastri get a shot at chasing down Max? In the end, no position swap – and the top six finished exactly how they started.
Verstappen takes the win with confidence and reminds everyone why he’s still the man to beat.

⭐ Driver of the Day:
Max Verstappen
Despite criticism about the car and noise around Red Bull’s second seat, Verstappen delivers pole and victory – classic Max.
❌ Loser of the Day:
Lance Stroll
Last in quali, no real pace in the race either – stayed stuck in P20. Nothing more to add.
📊 Championship Standings (Top 3):
- Lando Norris – 62 pts
- Max Verstappen – 61 pts
- Oscar Piastri – 49 pts
